Hololio House – Historic Homestead at Clevedon Polo Club

Relaxed, spacious, and lovingly restored, this lovely five-bedroom home spreads across 2400 square feet at the Hololio Polo Club, which is run by the owners in the summer. You’ll love the interior design of this lovely homestead, charmingly furnished with a mixture of antiques and restored and upcycled furniture. Spend leisurely afternoons lounging in the sun-filled living room, furnished with incredibly comfortable feather-filled sofas. The rustic, brick fireplace will keep you warm when the nights get a bit cooler as you take in the rural landscapes through large windows. The décor features a plethora of lovely artwork to brighten up the space.

The living room opens directly up to the dining room, where you’ll find a gorgeous antique French table that’s perfect for a celebration. The kitchen itself is relaxed, exuding country comfort while still offering state of the art amenities to work with. A new French door Fisher and Paykel refrigerator provides plenty of room for family feast preparation. The old Irish Stanley wood burner keeps the kitchen warm, and you can even cook on it if you wish! The kitchen looks out over the polo fields and opens up to an expansive, north-facing veranda, where you’ll find comfortable alfresco seating and a barbecue grill.

You’ll find five lovely bedrooms to choose from during your stay. Each is decorated in the same classic style as the rest of the home, combining elegance and rural charm to pamper you endlessly. One room features a super king-sized bed, while the next four have a queen and a twin. The final twin bedroom has an additional roll-out for children or extra guests.

During your stay, the Hololio pool will be available for your use. This spectacular limestone pool has a pebbled bottom and is surrounded by greenery, keeping the space serene and secluded. Relaxed and glamorous at the same time, you’ll adore soaking up the sun and splashing in the waves.

Hololio House was built for the Munro family, the first Pakeha settlers of the land in the 1880s. It features a timeless beauty you won’t get enough of, surrounded by natural splendor on all sides. All guests will have access to seven kilometers of river walking trails, and in the summer, the owners run the Hololio Polo Club and polo yard. Guests can expect to see polo three times a week. In the winter, the hosts run sheep, with some 700 lambs grazing from the river plain from April to October.

Clevedon itself is the perfect serene getaway for those looking for a bit of a thrill with their relaxation. Close to beaches, mountain bike routes, three magnificent regional parks, and so much more, you’ll never run out of things to do. The village is small and offers undeniable charm, with a local pub and delicious local restaurants to try. You’re just a short walk away from the Sunday farmer’s market, an absolute must for any visitor!
